Welcome to The Bonefish Flat

There's a stiff wind in your face as you squint in the sun trying to see what the guide sees. "Bonefish at 12 o'clock about 90 feet, do you see it, mon?" You don't and keep squinting, your hat pulled low to keep the sun out of your eyes. "Bonefish at 11 o'clock 70 feet out. Come on man, do you see it?" As the guide is calmly shifting the skiff into position, this time you spot the fish, "I got, it," you reply.

"OK, Mon, Bonefish 50 feet at 10 o'clock. Cast when you're ready."

Cast when you're ready. And with that you drop your fly, roll out a cast, false cast once, and then...

Welcome to the bonefish flat.

Mad River Outfitters

I haven't done much with the tab "Department of Commerce" over on the right hand side of the page.  I  had wanted to highlight some of my favorite fly shops here.

When I lived closer to Washington, it was pretty easy to hit up a local fly shop.  Now that I live out in pure suburbia, it's a little trickier.  I have some specific flies I want to tie and I need some key ingredients.  New hooks being foremost among them (more on that later).

I looked at several of my favorite fly shops online, but they seemed to have half of what I needed but were missing one or two things.

That's when I came across Mad River Outfitters.  I don't know a whole lot about them, but I got my order quickly and they had everything and then some in terms of key fly ingredients.

They also have free shipping on orders over 25 bucks and no sales tax unless you live in Ohio.

Be sure to check them out if you're looking to buy something on the Web.  I'll be back to their Web site.
